Composite Images
Well after my post “Photography by Numbers “I felt obliged to try and create a few images that were at least new to me or at least outside my comfort zone and with the weather here being just terrible over the past weeks ( maybe months ) it just makes outdoor shoots impossible. So I got to looking at composite images. Basically the idea is shooting a subject in studio and then dropping them into a background later. In some ways there are pros and cons with this. First of all I have always thought of photographic portraiture as a faithful document (Capturing that person, at that time and in that place) Secondly it is not as simple as it may seem, As I did not shoot these images for this purpose the subjects were at times difficult to remove from the background and making them look believable in the new environment is very tricky (hope I am at least some of the way there) but that aside possibilities are endless and that’s where the fun starts.
